Contemporary Carols

The Christmas services started in style last week

St George's started its Christmas celebrations last week, with the now-annual Contemporary Carol services. Between the two services, nearly 800 people filled the church to overflowing as we kicked off the festive season with a spectacular pair of events.

Pop songs by The Killers, Lily Allen and others sat alongside our own versions of Joy to the World and Once in Royal David's City as our house band provided musical accompaniment and backing for the evening. James brought the whole thing together with a series of thought-provoking and challenging talks on the implications of Jesus' arrival as a baby.

Although these were only the first two services of many this Christmas, we already have to thank all the volunteers and stewards who gave up their time so generously to help make the services such a success. We couldn't have done it without them!

Below are a few shots from the evening, and a couple from the band's rehearsals before the event itself. Have a look at our flickr page soon, where more photos from the day will be uploaded.
