Picnic in the Park

Picnic in the Park

Last Saturday, 24th April, saw the first Little Woodhouse Community Association (LWCA) picnic on Hanover Square for local residents in 13 years, and it was a huge success! St George’s had a team of more than ten people helping steward the event, serving free tea, coffee and cakes to picnickers, with face-painting and games for local kids.

Mick Taylor of the Liberal Democrats and both Hilary and Tony Benn of the Labour Party turned out to support the event, talking with local residents personally and being grilled by St George’s volunteers. There was an eclectic mix of live music held on the football court, ranging from Columbian folk songs to belly dancing!

It was exciting to once again be part of a community event and to be increasing the presence of St George’s in our parish, and we’re looking forward to building up our relationship with the local community in Community Week, 14th-20th June. To get involved in the week, sign up at the back of church or contact nick.lattimer@stgeorgesleeds.org.uk.

God is on the move in our community, so watch this space!
