WALK
Is that Walk with God or Walk with each other ?
Both.
WALK is the daily Bible reading (plus thought) now appearing on St George's Church home page.
The 'thought' is not intended to be a commentary; there are many of those available. It is the personal response of a member of St George's prayerfully reading the passage. Because it's personal we'll usually include the name of the contributor(s). This is a family thing, to be shared.
We plan to involve a wide range of people - various ages, lifestyles, problems, backgrounds. The key things held in common will be a love of God and some nervousness about doing this. Each person is contributing thoughts on a week of readings, and hopefully no one will contribute more than once a year.
We'll be usually looking at all or part of a single book each month. This will link in with that month's sermon series when appropriate.
We're starting simple, and may well continue just the same. Why not? However there are experimental aspects to this. If you have constructive thoughts on how to make this more accessible, more helpful in walking with God as members of the same church family, please do have a word with Mark Powley or Nigel Leech.
May 2011
Every word of Ephesians, covered in 31 bight-sized chunks. Jonathan will be preaching during May from Ephesians. This is a letter written by Paul, an early church leader and missionary, to the church he had helped found at Ephesus. The town was on the west coast of what is now Turkey. Here is teaching from a highly educated man who unexpectedly met Jesus, and gave the rest of his life to Him. He probably intended this letter to be used for distribution and general teaching.
June 2011
Key passages from Genesis, the first book in the Bible, a book we share with the Jewish Torah. Many of these passages are quite long in order to tell a complete story. If you read them all you will have a fairly good overview of what God had written down for this important piece of history. We read graphic descriptions of how God first began to walk with us human beings, and His unique ways of working.
July 2011
We will be covering the whole of Luke's gospel, broken into easy bits. This month will start us off.
Luke wrote a description of the life and death of Jesus based on detailed research and discussions with people who knew Jesus before his death and after his resurrection. This 'gospel' of Luke is included in our modern Bible. He also wrote the fifth book in our 'New Testament', which describes how God acted in building his early church.
August 2011
The sermon series will be looking at the section of Isaiah concerning King Hezekiah, so our readings cover the section of 2 Kings which describes Hezekiah's life. He was king of Judah 716-687 BC (dates not quite certain). We'll be providing a map, a timeline, and some other historical background when August comes.
