Dinner8

Dinner8 is a great way to get to know people at St George's. Typically 8 people will enjoy dinner together at someone's house, maybe play games, share testemonies, just chat - basically have a fun, relaxing evening.

Dates

There will be four Dinner8 events each year, the next one is planned for:

Saturday 16 October

So how does it work?

Hosts will have approx 6 guests to dinner (depends on the size of your dinning room / kitchen!) and guests will have a lovely meal cooked by a host(s).

How do I get to host a Dinner8?

Anyone from St Georges can sign up to host a Dinner8. You can cook an equisite 3 course meal or put a pizza in the oven - do not let your culinary skills deter you! You will have a budget of £5 per guest so hopefully cost shouldn't stop you from hosting.

You can sign up to host a Dinner8 in October by clicking here, (registration will open in September).

How can I be a Dinner8 guest?

Anyone from St Georges can sign up to be a guest at a Dinner8. If you sign up you must commit to the dinner as someone will have spent time and money on cooking for you. If you have an emergency on the night and can not make it you must phone your host in good time. Please give £5 to your host on the night to help towards the cost of the evening and feel free to take something to drink with you.

You can sign up to be a guest at a Dinner8 in July by clicking here, (registration will open in September).

FAQs

How do you match hosts and guests?

We try to arrange it by location primarily as the idea of Dinner8 is for you to make friends and be able to see each other again easily.

When do I find out which host I am going to?

Dinner8 sign up closes the Sunday beforee Saturday of the Dinner8. You will then receive an email with the details of your host(s) the Wednesday before Dinner8 giving you sometime to work out where you will be going and how you will get there.

What if there are no hosts local to me and I need a lift?

Email the Dinner8 co-ordinator and they will put you in touch with other guests who have offered lifts.

When do I know which guests I am having?

Dinner8 sign up closes the Sunday before the Saturday of the Dinner8. You will then receive an email with the details of your guests and any dietary requirements on the Tuesday before Dinner8 giving you 4 days to plan what you might like to cook.

If I am a host who doesn't want to accept the money from my guests what should I do?

All guests come prepared to donate £5 but should you wish you can donate the money to a charity of your choice or give it to the church.

What if I am a single host, can I pair up with another host?

Absolutely and this has worked brillinatly in the past. Just let the co-ordinator know and they will try to link you with another host.

As a host is there a specific format I should follow to the evening?

No. Play it by ear. As it is not an outreach event you should feel free to talk about church and your faith without worrying that you may put someone off! You can close the evening down whenever it draws to a natural conclusion.
