Giving
The information on this page relates to financial giving. The other pages of this website describe how you can get involved and serve at the various groups and ministries within the church.
Why do we give?
To say thank you to God for all He has given us To invest in the expansion of Jesus’ kingdom
How do we give to St George’s?
In 3 ways:
- Praying that our Church family will grow in every way.
- Serving according to our gifts and time available
- Giving money according to our means
Investment needed
In 2009, our ‘Adult Worshipping Community’ (regular attendees, not including students) rose from 337 to 402; a very encouraging increase. To maintain this growth we need to continue to invest in our staff team, and the equipment we need to run the Church and do innovative and creative outreach.
In 2010, our expenditure has risen from £422,000 to £492,000 with a deficit of over £70K. We have more than 400 adults who attend church regularly. An additional £250 a year per person, especially if given tax efficiently, would raise an extra £125,000 per year. This would wipe out our deficit completely, and would allow us to employ two extra staff. The church would then be receiving a total of £500,000 each year, of which £75,000 would go directly to our Mission Partners.
We are stepping out in faith, because we see all that God is doing, and we know that God honours those who put their faith in Him.
Will you join us and play your part?
We would encourage you to pray and consider giving to St George's or reconsider your giving if you already contributing. The best way to give is:
- Regularly - we pay our salaries monthly, so it is good to get monthly income. Please give by monthly standing order if possible.
- Tax Efficiently - if you are a tax-payer and you fill in a Gift Aid form, St George’s can get all your tax back - an extra 25%.
- Realistically - our budget is £492,000, and we get no subsidies from the Church of England or the Government. Everything is paid for by our giving.
- Proportionally - our incomes vary, and can rise and fall with time, so the best way to give is proportionally. A tithe (10% of income) is the Bible’s guideline. For some, this may be too much; for others it is a starting point.
How to give?
There are a number of ways to give to St George's:
- Monthly standing order - this is our preferred option as we know how much to expect each month. Please complete a "Playing our Part - Giving Form"
- Lump sum donations - please contact the church office
- Via the website - using our Paypal donation page
- Cheques in the offertory bags
- Cash in the offertory bags (we won’t be able to claim gift aid unless we know how much you’re given)
We would encourage you to give tax efficiently if you are a UK tax payer as we can reclaim an extra 25% on all your donations. This makes a huge difference to our income.
