Members
of the St George's Church staff team introduce themselves in their own words.
Revd James Barnett
"I'm originally from Halifax but have travelled
around a bit.
I’m a passionate sort of person. If I do something it’s all or
nothing, so I’m passionate about God, my family and sport. I’m
a sports fanatic, particularly rugby and the only sport I don’t really
‘get’ is golf. I also love music.
I’m the Team Vicar at St George’s.
I was brought up in a Christian family so have never known a time without
God. I’ve known times when I’ve run from him or he’s seemed
distant, but he’s always been a huge part of my life. Uni was a big
step. I went ready to give up being a Christian and left heading to be ordained.
Prior to coming to St George’s, I was a student studying physics but
changing to theology, but in between time I’ve played semi-pro rugby
league – I’ve probably played too much rugby! Until recently I
was a curate at St Paul’s in Bolton.
My vision is to see myself and everyone at St G’s to grow in intimacy,
in knowledge and in willingness to serve God. Being part of a church that
dares to love in a way that is exciting and that prays and prays and prays…
I’m married to Clare with a daughter, Molly. And I support Everton (Clare
and Molly don’t!)"
