Members of the St George's Church staff team introduce themselves in their own words.

Maureen Lawrence
“I moved to Leeds from Northern Ireland in August 1992. Managing work and home life has always been a challenge with two children (Jill and George) but it keeps me young at heart! I enjoy reading, playing tennis, meeting and socialising with friends to have fun. Before working at St George’s I worked part-time in a secretarial role within the golf industry, and would like to play some day if I ever get the time! I have been a big U2 fan since I saw them at Queens Students Union in Belfast in 1978. My favourite tracks are One, Kite, Grace, Walk On, 40 (Psalm40); the list goes on and on and on.

I first came to faith when I was 14 years old when I attended the Pentecostal Church in Belfast after listening to a talk from Pastor David Ailing and have been on a spiritual journey ever since. At times it has been a struggle but I have never doubted the presence of God’s love in my life which has been a roller coaster of a ride.

After asking God for some direction in my life he answered my prayers in April 2004 when I became Church Secretary at St George’s in what is a very busy office. I have in the past worked as Bank Staff in St George’s Crypt and loved meeting with the clients. The St George’s Centre eventually opened in October 2006 as a meeting and conference centre which became very busy, very quickly and I took on the responsibility as Events Administrator which I thoroughly enjoy. So if you would like to book a room, please contact me through bookings@stgeorgesleeds.org.uk or telephone
0113 383 2140.

I am excited by Jonathan’s vision for St George’s - taking the Church into the city of Leeds and offering courses to everyone in all walks of life that will encourage people to explore Christianity and help them move forward in a spiritual way."
