SMALL GROUPS AT ST GEORGE’S are the heart beat of church life and take place throughout Leeds. Each group is there to provide a safe place in which we grow as followers of Jesus. A small community offering love and acceptance, challenge and commitment. We would really encourage you to join a Small Group, so have a look at the Small Groups Board in the Foyer. To join one either contact the Small Group leaders directly or fill out a welcome card and leave it in the Church Tray on the Information. The office will then arrange for the Small Group leader(s) to contact you. If you have any questions concerning small groups at St Georges please speak to James Barnett or Kim Mason in the church office.
THE MONTHLY CHURCH PRAYER MEETING will not take place in August, but will resume on Tuesday 3 September in the Church Centre.
WE GIVE THANKS for the safe delivery of a son, Reuben, to James and Clare Barnett, born on Wednesday. Please pray for them as a family and for Clare, recovering from surgery. CONGRATULATIONS to Tom and Louise Rayward on the birth of their daughter, Fiona Jayne, a grand-daughter for George and Mary Harrison. THE CRYPT is in desperate need of a driver to collect food from Sainsbury’s, Monday-Friday in the Crypt van. The supermarket is now donating food to the Crypt most days, thereby saving a great deal of money. Currently, a staff member has to collect it, which is not a good use of their time. If you can spare a couple of hours, even once a week, it would be a great help. Please ring Chris Fields to discuss if you want more information, 0113 2459061 or chris.fields@stgeorgescrypt.org.uk. DAN SWIRES-HENNESSY AND JENNIE CALLAGHAN are getting married this Friday. Congratulations to them both. Please hold them in your prayers, and Joanna as she conducts the ceremony. FRIENDS of Mary Booth are warmly invited to join family and friends at the marriage service of her daughter Sarah to Peter. This is on Saturday 23 August at 2.00pm. DARRYL HALL, a contemporary of Dave Young, is in ordination training in Durham and will be on placement at St George's for a month. He starts on 26 August and will be staying with Trevor Hodge. To help Darryll feel welcome it would be great if he (and Trevor) could be invited to Sunday lunch for the 4 weeks that he will be with us - 31 August, 7 and 14 September. Offers to the church office please. 20S&30S TRIP TO LEEDS CLIMBING WALL We are going to take a trip to Leeds Climbing Wall on the 22 September at about 2pm. This session will be supervised and open to any level of climber from complete beginner. The cost will be £10-12 depending on how long a session we do (1-2 hours). If you would like to come please contact Jo Harris. 20S&30S BANK HOLIDAY BARBECUE Monday 25 August is a bank holiday so we're having a barbecue. Everybody 20ish to 39ish is invited - bring your friends! Contact Smylers for details. BIBLES.As we are now very short of Bibles, especially upstairs, the PCC has agreed to purchase new ones. We are taking the opportunity to replace the current ones with an updated version of the NIV. The PCC is asking the congregation to help pay for the new bibles by buying 1.5 bibles each! This amounts to £13 per person. In this way, we will be helping those who cannot afford to buy one at all. If you can spare more than £13, this would be very helpful. Donations may be gift aided. Cheques to St George's Church via the Offertory bag, the Churchwardens or Janet Gibson. Cash is also fine as long as it is in an envelope and clearly marked ‘Bibles’, with your name if you are gift-aiding the money. CAROLS BY CANDLELIGHT. On Sunday 14 December there will be a service with traditional carols. Anyone who can sing (ability to sing a voice part is essential) would be most welcome to join the choir. Altos and men’s voices are particularly in demand for 2008. Rehearsals will take place on Monday evenings in the Church Centre between 8.00-10.00pm with the first rehearsal on 29 September. If you are interested or would like further information please contact David Jackson, GREENBELT. If you are going to Greenbelt, look out for Phill Hopkins’ latest exhibition consisting of drawings and sculptures which grapple with the English folk traditions and the Christian faith. Phill worships here in the mornings.
