Leader Update

Jonathan Clark

Dear Church Family (and Mission Partners around the world),

On Sunday, Mary and I announced that we will be leaving St Georges and Leeds in the Autumn. Our last Sunday will be October 16th.

For the last 15 months, we have been sensing, in various ways, that our work at StG's has been completed, and that the Lord of the Church is calling us on to a new phase of life and ministry.

In November we are moving to Thailand, to Christ Church in Bangkok, which is part of the Anglican Diocese of Singapore. It is a very international church, with c30 nationalities present on a Sunday and many refugees, mainly from Myanmar and Pakistan. I will be assisting the Vicar for a year, but only working part-time, so that we have time for a Sabbatical rest and to travel around SE Asia. It will be exciting to see what the Lord is doing there, good to have a Church base and to be able to serve. We would value your prayers for us during this time, and will share news. We expect to be short-term mission partners with Crosslinks mission society.

After that year we don't know what the Lord has for us to do, so we venture out, like Abraham and Sarah, not knowing where we are going, but knowing the One who is calling us.We pray that wherever we go we will be a blessing, and be able to lead people to finding their rest in Jesus.

We are going to miss our St George's Family very much, and leaving will be hard. We love you all so much and are so very grateful for all the ways that God has blessed us over the last 13 years. Under God, we have been a great team together!

We are confident that as the Lord is leading us, so he will be leading you too. We have strong teams in place, lots of experienced leaders, and plenty of people offering to help in all kinds of ways; and Luke Briggs is joining us as Associate Rector at the start of September.

The Church Wardens and the Church Council (PCC) will be in charge of the process of finding a new Rector. The best thing we can all do is to pray that the Lord of the Church will continue to bless, not only StG's and the Crypt but our whole city of Leeds as Jesus grows his Church.

With our love,
Jonathan and Mary
